No matter where I go there is always something new to discover, from the beautiful grasslands to the bustling city streets, to children playing cricket. This island evokes happiness and laughter with every turn you take and is a perfect destination to be shared with family.
Escaping to The Colombo Countryside
Upon arrival at the international airport in Colombo, your driver will meet you and your family and transfer you to your hotel north of Colombo. Depending on your arrival time, you may have the opportunity to explore the surrounding areas of your hotel such as the local villages or even venture into central Negombo. Your stay at this countryside hotel allows for the upmost relaxation surrounded by untouched nature. Enjoy home cooked goodness for dinner at your hotel before turning in for the night.
Village hopping in Sigiriya
In the morning after breakfast your driver will meet you at your hotel to drive you to Sigiriya. This four-hour drive to central Sri Lanka takes you through lush green land, beautiful villages and unbeatable landscapes. On the way to Sigiriya stop at Melsiripura for lunch, with the option to visit a local school or farm. Onwards to your countryside hotel in Sigiriya where you will spend the next few nights. Set in the beautiful Sri Lankan countryside surrounded by lakes, your stay here guaranteed to be a tranquil and relaxing one.
Climbing The Sigiriya Rock Fortress
Begin your morning with a delicious breakfast at your hotel. Your driver will meet you late in the morning to take you to Sigirya Rock. The Sigiriya Rock, also known as the Lion Rock, is an ancient rock fortress which King Kasyapa once built his palace upon. Here you can explore the grounds and see some of the most beautiful and celebrated relics that Sri Lanka has to offer. Climb the steps to the top of the Rock Fortress for sunset to watch the sky light up in colours of orange and red.
Enjoy a relaxing morning at your hotel or exploring the local area. There is plenty to offer in the area however if you are looking for something different a tour to the Dabulla Caves can be arranged. For those that are looking for an action packed day looking for leopards and elephants, we recommend an excursion to Mineriya National Park where the flora and fauna is unbeatable. Spot animals in the natural habitat and feel at one with nature, discovering beautiful sites and creating wonderful memories with your family.
After breakfast your driver will take you to city of Polonnaruwa. Here you will begin a guided tour of the ancient city, discovering Sri Lanka’s history. Polonnaruwa was first declared the capital city by King Vijayabahu I after defeating the Chola invaders. After lunch in this historic city, your driver will transfer you to the east coast of Sri Lanka to Trincomalee, where you will spend the next few days. Check in to your hotel and watch the sun setting, lighting up the sky in beautiful colours before enjoying a seafront dinner.
Enjoy a leisurely morning, enjoying the hotel facilities or spending time on the beach. After lunch your driver will meet you at your hotel to take you to Koneswaram Temple, a beautiful and intricate temple. The paintings here bring colour to this beautiful Hindu temple – this visit is not to be missed. Return to your hotel in the evening or if you prefer your driver is at your disposal for the night and can take you to some of the best restaurants in the town centre of Trincomalee for dinner. After dinner, return to your hotel for the night.
Relaxing on the Sri Lankan East Coast
If you are an early riser enjoy a walk on the beach before breakfast to take in the beauty of Marble Beach as the locals wake and bring to life this beautiful beach. There are many activities available in Trincomalee such as boat tours, scuba diving, snorkelling or dolphin and whale watching which can be arranged. Otherwise spend the day relaxing on the beach, listening to the waves crash and the wind flow. You can even enjoy a traditional Sri Lankan massage whilst on the beach! Overnight at hotel.
Venturing Into Central Sri Lanka
After breakfast at your hotel your driver will meet you to transfer you to Kandy. This 4-hour drive to into central Sri Lanka takes you back through Dambulla and into the thick, lush green lands of Sri Lanka. Enjoy this beautiful drive, taking in the dramatic Sri Lankan landscapes. Check into your hotel and spend the rest of your evening relaxing and making the most of your hotel and surrounding areas. Kandy is a peaceful and spiritual place where you will find yourself feeling calm and relaxed.
Kandy’s Temple of The Tooth
Enjoy a leisurely morning at your hotel before heading into Kandy to visit this iconic city. Walk around the lake and discover the incredible architecture before heading to the magnificent Temple of The Tooth. This temple is not to be missed and we encourage you to visit during one of the ceremonies at midday or sunset. A trip to the beautiful Botanical Gardens can be arranged or you can simply enjoy the gentle pace of life in central Kandy before heading back to you hotel in the evening.
Onwards Into The Tea Country
After breakfast at your hotel your driver will meet you to transfer you to the wonderful Nuwara Eliya. Be sure to have your camera ready to photograph some of Sri Lanka’s most beautiful, untouched landscapes on this drive! You can ask your chauffeur-guide to stop whenever you like to absorb the beauty and capture the moment. Upon arrival in Nuwara Eliya you can choose to check in and relax at your hotel or head out and visit one of the local tea factories to learn about the leading industry in the area.
Excursion To Nuwara Eliya
Rise early this morning and enjoy breakfast at your hotel before being met by your chauffeur-guide who will take you to Horton Plains. Horton Plains is a national park and protected area in the central highlands of Sri Lanka and is must see during your holiday to Sri Lanka. Montane evergreen forests, grasslands and an aquatic ecosystem make this place the beautiful place that it is. Enjoy lunch in the wilderness and explore the beautiful park by jeep safari before returning to your hotel in Nuwara Eliya.
heading To Sri Lanka’s South Coast
Rise with the sun this morning and listen to the bird song whilst you enjoy sights of this untouched land. After breakfast and any last minute explorations through the park, your driver will take you on a 3 hour journey to one of Sri Lanka’s most southern cities: Galle. On the way to Galle you will stop at Matara for lunch by the sea, before continuing on to Galle to watch the sunset over the crashing waves. Check in to your hotel in Galle before heading into the centre for dinner.
The Iconic Galle Fort
After breakfast at your hotel you will head into Galle to discover another one of Sri Lanka’s charming cities. Galle’s charm comes from the juxtaposition between the European architecture and the South Asian culture, which comes together beautifully in this charismatic city. Head to the Bay of Galle before lunch to visit Galle Fort and then spend the afternoon at leisure visiting the museums, galleries and cafes. Galle is also famous for its beautiful churches so be sure to tour the city and take them in. Return to your hotel after dinner in Galle.
Depending on your flight departure time, you may be able to enjoy a leisurely morning at your hotel or even continuing to explore Galle before having to return to Colombo. The two hour driver from Galle to the international airport passes through Colombo, so if you prefer, and have the time, you can choose to visit the city of Colombo for some last minute sight-seeing or even some souvenir shopping.
